Days, not months, in their words.

  • Rang on a Monday about my knee. MRI Tuesday evening, Mr Okoye on Thursday with the scan on the screen, arthroscopy two weeks later. Back on the bike in six weeks, exactly as the sheet said.

    James W.

  • My PSA had been sitting in a GP inbox for a month. Northgate did the blood, the MRI and the urologist in six days. It was benign. I got my summer back.

    Anita R.

  • Gallbladder out at 9, home by 5, and the price on the quote was the price on the invoice. Bupa billed directly, I paid the excess and nothing else.

    Patrick O.

  • The results account is the thing. Report in two days, a text to say it was there, and Dr Sterling rang me the same afternoon because something needed a follow-up. Nobody has ever rung me about a scan before.

    Helen M.

  • Colonoscopy within a week of the consultation, polyps removed, Dr Farahani told me what she found before I had finished the toast. Parking barrier took two goes with the reference, hence four stars.

    Tom D.

  • Second opinion on a shoulder operation I had been offered. Dr Ashdown chased my old scans herself; the answer was physio, not surgery. Worth every penny of the £350.

    Sunita K.

[13]Questions patients ask

The questions every first call asks.

Still unsure?

One call gives you a department, a date and a price. Rachel's team answers in under two minutes on average.

Do I need a GP referral?

Not for a self-pay scan or consultation: our clinical team does a short phone assessment and writes the request. Insurers usually need a GP referral before they will authorise a consultant, though most will cover a scan we request. Rachel's team checks your policy before you attend.

How fast, really?

Audited for 2025: median 38 hours from first call to MRI, median 4 working days from first call to a consultant's written plan, endoscopy within 7 days, day surgery within 3 weeks. The estimator shows the next available date for each department.

Is the price fixed?

Yes. Scan and consultation prices are published. Day-surgery packages are quoted in writing after your consultation and include the surgeon, anaesthetist, theatre, stay, medicines, two follow-ups and any return to theatre within 30 days. The quote is the invoice.

What is not included in a package?

The initial consultation, any scan before it, and anything unrelated to the operation. If a keyhole gallbladder has to become an open operation, or you need to stay overnight, that is covered. We say so on the quote.

Which insurers do you bill directly?

Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, WPA, Cigna, Healix, Allianz, Freedom Health and The Exeter. Give us your policy number and authorisation code; you pay only your excess on the day. Other insurers: pay the fixed price and claim it back with our itemised invoice.

How do I get my results?

Everything goes into your Northgate Results account when it is signed: MRI and CT within two working days, ultrasound and X-ray the same day, biopsies within seven working days. Anything urgent is phoned through the same day by the reporting consultant.

Who will I actually see?

A consultant, every time: fourteen of them, all with current NHS practice and GMC numbers listed on their profiles. Reports are written by our own consultant radiologists in the building.

Can I be seen in the evening or on a Saturday?

MRI runs until 20:00 Monday to Thursday and Saturday mornings. Consultants run evening clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Miss Pryce sees children on Saturday mornings. The finder filters by day.
