Chest infection or a cough that will not shift
Three weeks of cough, fever or wheeze needs listening to, and sometimes an X-ray.

Child with a fever
Most fevers are viral and pass. A child who is drowsy, not drinking, or has a rash that does not fade under a glass needs seeing now.

Toothache or a broken tooth
Two emergency slots are kept every morning. Ring at 8 and you are usually in by 10.

A changing mole
Growing, darkening, uneven edges, itching or bleeding. Most are fine; the ones that are not need finding early.

Back pain
Most back pain settles in six weeks with the right movement. Physio speeds it up and rules out the rare serious causes.

Anxiety, low mood, not coping
Weeks of feeling on edge, flat, or unable to switch off. Talking early works better than waiting.

Eczema, psoriasis or acne
Long-running skin conditions that over-the-counter treatments have not settled.

Recurrent tummy pain in a child
Weeks of on-and-off pain, sometimes with bowel changes or missed school. Rarely serious, worth a proper look.

Heavy or painful periods
Flooding, clots, pain that stops you working. Often fibroids, endometriosis or nothing structural; all treatable.

Hot flushes, poor sleep, brain fog
From the mid-forties on, this is usually perimenopause, and it responds to treatment.
