The appointment for the mole you keep looking at. A consultant dermatologist examines it with a polarised dermatoscope, which shows the structures under the surface that decide whether a mole is harmless, needs watching or needs removing. You get the answer before you leave.
What happens
- Your history: sunburns, sunbeds, family history, previous skin cancers
- Dermoscopy of up to three moles, photographed and stored so change can be measured
- One of three verdicts: reassure, re-check in three months, or remove for histology
- A written note and a letter to your GP
If we advise removal, the excision or shave biopsy is booked within the week, and the histology result is phoned to you within five working days of it. If we advise watching, the three-month re-check is £45.

A mole check, full-body check or consultation ends with a verdict and a written note. You are not sent away to wait for a letter.
- 01Send a photo, or ringWhatsApp or upload a photograph and Claire replies within one working day: today, this week or routine. Or ring Rosie, who holds two same-day mole slots every weekday.
- 02The checkA consultant dermatologist examines the mole, or all of them, with a dermatoscope. Photographs are stored. You leave with a verdict in writing: reassure, re-check, or remove.
- 03Removal, if neededBooked within the week in our own minor operations room under local anaesthetic. Home the same hour. Everything removed goes to histology.
- 04The resultThe surgeon phones you within five working days, whatever the histology says. Abnormal results come with a plan and a date, and a same-day NHS referral if it is a melanoma.
- 05AfterwardsStitches out with Claire, a scar review at three months, and a follow-up plan in writing: yearly for most, three-monthly in year one after a melanoma. A map next year if your moles need one.

Abnormal histology is phoned by the surgeon who took the sample, the day the report is signed, with the plan and a date. We do not post cancer results, and we do not leave them on voicemail: if we cannot reach you we keep trying and send a message asking you to call Rosie.

01What if you find something?
We tell you in the room, show you the dermoscopy image, and book the removal within the week. Histology takes five working days and Dr Marchetti phones you with the result. If it is a melanoma we also refer you the same day to the regional skin cancer team, because the NHS handles the staging and any wider surgery for free.
02Can a nurse check my mole?
Photo triage is nurse-led and free. The check itself is always a consultant dermatologist with a dermatoscope: that is where the accuracy lives.
