Sound-treated test booth
A quiet room within a room, so the test measures your ears and not the traffic on Market Place. Two of them, both with a loop and a window so you are never shut in.
What it tells us
- The quietest sound you can hear at each pitch, each ear
- Whether the loss is in the inner ear or the middle ear (bone conduction)
- How well you follow words with noise behind them

Video otoscopy
A small camera on a thin probe that shows the inside of your ear on a screen you can see. Every appointment starts with it.
What it tells us
- Wax, and whether it is blocking sound
- The health of the ear canal and eardrum
- A perforation, infection or foreign body that needs a doctor
- How an in-the-ear aid or plug is sitting

Real-ear measurement
A soft, thin tube beside the hearing aid in your ear canal measures what actually reaches your eardrum while the aid plays speech. We adjust until it matches your prescription. Every fitting, both ears.
What it tells us
- Whether the aid is delivering your prescription in your ear, not the average ear
- Too much or too little at each pitch
- Whether a re-tune is needed after your hearing changes
- Why a pair bought elsewhere has never sounded right

Tympanometry and speech-in-noise
A gentle pressure test of the eardrum and middle ear, and a test of words against a background of noise, because that is where hearing fails first.
What it tells us
- Fluid or a blocked Eustachian tube behind the eardrum
- A stiff or perforated eardrum
- How much a hearing aid will help in a restaurant, in numbers
- Which technology level is worth paying for

Microsuction under the microscope
An ENT microscope, a fine suction wand and gentle instruments. Dry, no water, no syringing. Helen and the audiologists are trained and audited on it.
What it tells us
- Wax, lifted out while you watch
- The eardrum behind it, once clear
- Skin or debris that needs a doctor rather than us
