What we do here
Three things,

The consultation
Conversation, tests, explanation, plan. Bring someone; it helps to have a second pair of ears.
Weeks 1 to 4
Sound at night, the plan by day. Most people notice they are thinking about it less, not that it is quieter.
Month 3, follow-up
You score it again. We adjust the plan or, if hearing aids are the answer, fit them with a tinnitus programme.

Bring someone with you
Bring a relative or friend into the appointment; we encourage it. A familiar voice is the best thing to test with, and two people remember more than one.
Cannot get to Market Place?
Tom comes to you. Tuesdays and Thursdays, within two weeks; £95 for a hearing test at home, including travel.

Every price on this page is the whole price. Hearing aid prices are for a pair at each technology level, include fitting with real-ear measurement, follow-ups, four years of aftercare, the maker's warranty and the 60-day money-back promise. A single aid is about 55% of the pair price. Large-print copies at the desk.

The 60-day promise
Wear any pair from us for 60 days, in every room of your life. Come back as often as you need. If they are not right for you, for any reason, return them for a full refund with no restocking fee. Paid monthly? The agreement is cancelled too. Last year 65 pairs came back and 65 refunds were paid.

TinnitusRoutine
Sound with no outside source: ringing, hissing, buzzing. One in eight adults has it. Usually harmless and usually with a hearing loss you had not noticed. It cannot usually be cured, and it can nearly always be made to matter much less.
Book the tinnitus consultation, or come to the free support group first. One-sided or pulsing tinnitus: GP first.
HyperacusisRoutine
Ordinary sounds, cutlery, traffic, a child's voice, feel painfully loud. Often alongside tinnitus. It is real, it is not damage, and sound therapy helps most people.
Book the tinnitus consultation with Priya; the approach is the same. Do not wear plugs indoors; it makes it worse.

Run by Priya for anyone with tinnitus and the people who live with them. A short talk each month (sleep, sound, hearing aids, what the research says), then tea and the chance to talk to people who understand. Free, no need to book; just come.

We are the cream shopfront with the burnt-orange door at 12 Market Place, between the bakery and the bank, facing the market cross.
The door is level with the pavement and there is a hearing loop at the desk. Ring the bell if you would like someone to open the door for you.

People ask
Is there a cure?
For most people, no, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something. What there is, is a way to make it matter far less, and for most people that is close enough to a cure to be getting on with.
Will hearing aids help?
Often, if there is a hearing loss with it, which there usually is. Aids fill in the sounds you were missing and the tinnitus has less silence to sit in. Most modern aids also have a tinnitus sound programme.
