Questions people ask
Before you book
The questions people ask at the desk about appointments, answered plainly.
Why is it free?
Because most people over 50 who come for a test go on to think about hearing aids, and we would rather the test cost nothing than have anyone put it off. Nobody here is paid on sales, and half the people we test are told they do not need aids yet.
Will I be sold hearing aids?
No. You will be told what we found and what would help. If that is hearing aids, you can listen to some that day and go home to think. The prices are on the wall and on this website.
Do I need two?
If both ears have a loss, two aids nearly always work better than one: you can tell where sound comes from and follow speech in noise much better. If one ear is fine, we fit one. A single aid is about 55% of the pair price.
Which makers do you fit?
The main five: Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Widex and Starkey, plus ReSound and Unitron when they suit. We are tied to none, and our prices are by technology level, not by maker, so we can choose freely.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. 0% over 12 or 24 months with a 10% deposit, or a longer term with interest; see the pay-monthly page. Essential level works out at about £56 a month over two years with a 10% deposit.
Does it hurt?
No. It is noisy and a little strange, and some people find it ticklish. If anything is uncomfortable we stop. We do not syringe, which is the method that used to hurt.
