In plain words
What this is
The foam plug from the chemist blocks everything, falls out, and gets left in the glovebox. A custom plug is made from a silicone impression of your ear canal, so it fits, stays put and can be taken out with one finger.
Types
- Musicians' plugs with a flat filter (9, 15 or 25 dB): the band sounds the same, only quieter. Made for musicians, sound engineers and gig-goers
- Shooting plugs with an electronic or passive filter that lets speech through and shuts the shot out
- Motorcycling: cuts wind noise, keeps the engine
- Swimming: floating, watertight, for people with grommets or a history of infections
- Sleep: soft, small, for the partner who snores
We take impressions in the shop any day. The plugs come back in about ten working days and we check the fit when you collect them. Musicians: ask about the Help Musicians hearing scheme, which can cover most of the cost.
