What this is
Some people need more than a result sheet: a GP has asked for an audiogram before an ENT referral, an employer needs a hearing test for a noisy job, an insurer or solicitor wants a report, or a hearing loss is one-sided and needs looking into properly.
What is added to the full test
- Tympanometry: a gentle pressure test of the eardrum and middle ear
- Bone-conduction testing, which tells us whether the problem is in the inner ear or the middle ear
- A typed report with the audiogram, our findings and a recommendation, sent within two working days
If we find something that needs a doctor, an ear that hears differently from the other, a sudden change, or a middle-ear problem, we say so and write to your GP the same day.

What happens,
in order
Nothing here is hurried. Each step is explained before it happens, and written down for you afterwards in large print.
Bring someone with you
Bring a relative or friend into the appointment; we encourage it. A familiar voice is the best thing to test with, and two people remember more than one.
The appointment
75 minutes: the full test, then the middle-ear and bone-conduction tests.
