What people bring to this plate.

Most of it is routine, some of it is this week, and a few things are not us at all.

Plate IV

Seen: within 48 hours; desk visits within 10 days.

  • Desk-related neck and back pain

    • Neck, shoulder or lower back ache building through the day
    • Better at weekends and on holiday
    • A laptop with no riser or separate keyboard

Treatment at the wharf and a desk assessment at your desk, £140 together. Employers can book Daniel for a morning.

Stop here first

Some things are not ours, or not ours first.

  • Numbness around the saddle area, new trouble with bladder or bowel control, or weakness in both legs (A&E now)
  • Back pain with unexplained weight loss, fever or night sweats (see your GP this week first)
  • A fall, crash or impact with pain you cannot bear weight through (urgent care for an X-ray first)
  • Chest pain, breathlessness or a headache unlike any you have had (999 or 111 first)

The triage asks about all of these →

Honest about the evidence

- Fifteen minutes of questions: how it started, what makes it better or worse, how you sit, sleep and work, and what you want back - Watching you move, then examining the joints and tissues by hand; the osteopath explains what they feel as they go - Treatment on the day: soft-tissue work, stretching, mobilising and, if it will help and you agree, manipulation (the click) - Two or three things to do at home, and a plan with an honest number of visits and a review point at visit three

Written inside the GOsC and ASA advertising rules, and it says so.

Plate IV, fig. 5Questions

Questions about desk & posture.

What should I wear?

Something loose you can move in. For a back or hip we may ask you to strip to underwear or wear shorts; we have shorts and a gown, a towel covers you, and you can keep leggings on if you prefer. Tell us what you are comfortable with.

Will you crack my back?

Only if it is likely to help and you want it. The click is gas releasing in a joint, not bone; it is one technique among many and plenty of people never have it.

Do I need a new chair?

Usually not. Most desks are fixed with the chair you have, a laptop riser and a separate keyboard. When a chair really is the problem we say so and name two, neither of which we sell.

Deep or relaxing?

Your call. Tom works deep by default and lighter when you say so; there is no medal for putting up with it.

Will my employer pay?

Many do, because a DSE assessment is something they are supposed to provide. Ask, or give them Daniel's number; we invoice companies directly.

Is chiropractic safe at my age?

Often, but Sophie screens carefully and does not manipulate where bones are thin or the neck shows warning signs. Many over-60s do better with Karolina's gentler approach, and the triage or Grace will steer you.
