Pick the main one. If there are two, pick the worst; the practitioner will look at the rest.
How it scores
- 1.Where, when, what makes it worse, the desk, sleep, warning signs, and which style you prefer.
- 2.Every answer adds points to one or more of the eight routes; nothing branches, so no answer is wasted.
- 3.Four answers stop the check: they are A&E, 111 or GP first, and we say so plainly.
- 4.Nothing scored? We need to look: the £64 first visit is the first session of every plan.

Why we stop
Not us first. We will see you afterwards.
A few things that present as back or neck pain need a doctor, a scan or an X-ray before anyone treats them by hand. The triage asks about them on purpose, and if one applies it says where to go and stops. Once it has been ruled out, we see you within 48 hours for the recovery.

This is a guide to which first visit to book, not a diagnosis. Availability shown is demonstration data. If you are in severe pain, have had a significant injury, or any of the warning signs listed apply, go to A&E, urgent care, 111 or your GP first.
Stop 1A&E or 999
Numbness around the saddle area, new trouble controlling my bladder or bowel, or weakness in both legs
Please go to A&E now or call 999. These can be signs of pressure on the nerves at the bottom of the spine (cauda equina), which needs a same-day scan. We will gladly see you afterwards for the recovery.
Stop 2GP first
Back pain with unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, or a history of cancer
Please see your GP this week before booking with us. These need blood tests or a scan first; once your GP is happy, we will see you within 48 hours.
Stop 3A&E or 999
A fall, crash or impact, and I cannot bear weight or the joint looks wrong
Please go to urgent care or A&E for an X-ray first. A fracture needs ruling out before anyone treats it by hand. Once it is, book a first visit or a home visit and we will take it from there.
Stop 4A&E or 999
A sudden severe headache, dizziness or visual disturbance with neck pain
Please call 111 now, or 999 if it is the worst headache you have had. Neck pain with those symptoms needs a doctor to look first; we do not treat a neck until they have.
