Plate III
Babies & children

40 minutes in the baby room with Mei Lin: gentle assessment and treatment for unsettled, one-sided babies, and for children's aches.
Within the week, in the baby room
Plate III, fig. 1The plate
Parents come to us with a baby who prefers one side, feeds better on one breast, seems stiff or uncomfortable, or is hard to settle. Mei Lin checks the whole baby, from how the neck turns to how the hips move, treats with very light pressure (about the weight of a pound coin) and shows you positions and play that help between visits.
The research on osteopathy for babies is limited. The advertising rules for osteopaths do not allow us to claim to treat colic, reflux, sleep problems or flat head, and we do not. What we can do is check for and help with muscular tightness and a preference for one side, show you handling that makes feeding and tummy time easier, and tell you plainly when something needs your GP or health visitor instead. Most parents notice their baby is easier to handle after a visit or two; some see no change, and we say so rather than book more.
Growing pains, heavy schoolbags, sports knocks and the slouch that arrives with a phone. Ordinary osteopathy, at a child's pace, with a parent in the room.
Median 2 visits per baby; 22% discharged after one (2025, demonstration data)
What should I wear?
Something loose you can move in. For a back or hip we may ask you to strip to underwear or wear shorts; we have shorts and a gown, a towel covers you, and you can keep leggings on if you prefer. You can bring someone with you. Say what you are comfortable with and we work around it.

We cannot claim that and will not. The evidence for osteopathy and colic is limited or negative, and the advertising rules for osteopaths reflect that. We can check whether your baby is tight or one-sided, help with that, and show you handling that makes hard evenings easier. If you are worried about colic, your health visitor and GP are the first call.
A feed, a spare nappy and the red book. Feed the baby before or during if you like; there is a rocking chair. Sessions run at the baby's pace, and a crying baby is fine.
Sudden severe back pain?
Phone and Grace answers. Say where it hurts and whether you can do mornings.
