Plate XI

After your first visit

A plan, not a leaflet.

An osteopath talking a patient through a printed exercise sheet at the end of a treatment, both seated, warm light (AI-generated demonstration image)
The Wharf House, Fennbridge.

The first visit ends with a plan, not a leaflet. Here is what arrives, when, and where the review point is. Everything comes by plain email; there is no app to install.

First visit £64, 45 minutes

Plate XI, fig. 1What happens next

Six sheets after the first visit.

Visit three is the review; we do not keep booking on hope.

  1. I

    Before you leave

Your practitioner shows you what they found, the two or three things to do at home, and the number of visits they expect. You book visit two with Grace, and if a block makes sense she says so; if it does not, she says that too.

  2. II

    The same evening

A short email: what we found in plain words, your exercises with a photo of each, what to expect over the next two days, and the plan with the review date. Insured patients: the invoice goes to the insurer, not you.

  3. III

    Days 1 to 2

Some soreness or tiredness is normal, like after a workout. Heat, gentle movement and the exercises. If anything feels wrong, call; a flare is seen the same or next day at no charge.

  4. IV

    Visit 2, within a week

Measured against visit one: pain score, the movement that hurt, how the exercises felt. Treatment progressed, exercises changed.

  5. V

    Visit 3, the review

You score pain and function against visit one. Clearly better: the plan continues and spaces out. Not clearly better: we change the approach, swap discipline, or refer you to your GP, imaging or a specialist. We do not keep booking on hope.

  6. VI

    Discharge, average visit 3.6

A maintenance plan, a clear list of what would bring you back, and the option of a monthly membership if you want a hand on it. Blocks are refunded pro rata if you finish early.

Not ours to treat

If the examination finds something that is not ours to treat, you hear it on the day, in plain words, with a letter for your GP written before you leave. Last year that was 4.8% of first visits. We would rather lose a patient than treat the wrong thing.

Sent straight on, the same day

  • Numbness around the saddle area, new trouble controlling my bladder or bowel, or weakness in both legs
  • Back pain with unexplained weight loss, fever, night sweats, or a history of cancer
  • A fall, crash or impact, and I cannot bear weight or the joint looks wrong
  • A sudden severe headache, dizziness or visual disturbance with neck pain

The visit-three promise

Not clearly better by visit three? The plan changes.

At visit three you score your pain and what you can do against visit one. If you are not clearly better, we change the approach, swap you to the other discipline at no extra first-visit charge, or write to your GP for imaging or a referral. Any unused block sessions are refunded. We do not keep booking people who are not improving.
