Stiff mornings, worn hips and knees, the fear of falling. Slower appointments, a lower table, chair-based exercises and a programme built around staying independent.

What people bring to this plate.

Most of it is routine, some of it is this week, and a few things are not us at all.

Plate VII

Seen: within the week; home visits tuesday and thursday.

First visit from £64. Through the green door on the ground floor, step-free from the lane. You see Karolina or Ruth.

  • Hip and groin pain

    Routine

Arthritis in the joint, tendon pain on the outside of the hip, or referred pain from the back.

    • Groin pain putting on socks or getting out of a car
    • Pain on the outside of the hip lying on it
    • Stiffness after sitting

A first visit; for over-60s with arthritis the Steady programme suits. Sudden inability to bear weight after a fall is an X-ray first.

    Osteopathy first visit£64

  • Arthritis and stiff mornings over 60

    Routine

Worn hips, knees and spines. Not curable, very manageable, and the right exercise does more than anything else.

    • Stiff for the first half hour of the day
    • Achy after sitting
    • Reduced walking distance

The Steady programme with Karolina, or a home visit if getting here is the problem. Gentle techniques; no manipulation where bones are fragile.

    Steady programme for over-60s£220

  • Osteoporosis: what changes

    Routine

Thinner bones do not stop you having treatment, but they change what we do. Say so when you book.

    • A diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia
    • Long-term steroid use
    • A previous fragility fracture

Book a first visit and tell us; we use mobilising and soft-tissue work, never manipulation, and the exercises follow bone-health guidance. Sudden severe mid-back pain with osteoporosis is a GP visit for an X-ray first.

Honest about the evidence

- Fifteen minutes of questions: how it started, what makes it better or worse, how you sit, sleep and work, and what you want back - Watching you move, then examining the joints and tissues by hand; the osteopath explains what they feel as they go - Treatment on the day: soft-tissue work, stretching, mobilising and, if it will help and you agree, manipulation (the click) - Two or three things to do at home, and a plan with an honest number of visits and a review point at visit three

Written inside the GOsC and ASA advertising rules, and it says so.

Plate VII, fig. 5Questions

Questions about older adults & balance.

I have osteoporosis. Can I still come?

Yes. We do not manipulate, we use gentle mobilising and soft-tissue work, and the exercise plan is exactly what bone health guidance recommends: standing, strength and balance.

What should I wear?

Something loose you can move in. For a back or hip we may ask you to strip to underwear or wear shorts; we have shorts and a gown, a towel covers you, and you can keep leggings on if you prefer. Tell us what you are comfortable with.

Will you crack my back?

Only if it is likely to help and you want it. The click is gas releasing in a joint, not bone; it is one technique among many and plenty of people never have it.

Which areas?

Eight miles from the wharf: Fennbridge, Wexbury, the canal villages and the Ridge estates. Further out we will point you to someone nearer.

Will my employer pay?

Many do, because a DSE assessment is something they are supposed to provide. Ask, or give them Daniel's number; we invoice companies directly.

Is chiropractic safe at my age?

Often, but Sophie screens carefully and does not manipulate where bones are thin or the neck shows warning signs. Many over-60s do better with Karolina's gentler approach, and the triage or Grace will steer you.
